Maxwell-Reddick and Associates, Inc. provided the surveying and civil engineering design for the project as well as construction inspections. Maxwell-Reddick and Associates, Inc. also developed the plats used for necessary property and easement acquisitions.
Our Approach
This project involved the removal and reconfiguration of curb and gutter in order to provide larger radii on all 4 corners. The project included the upgrade of water, sanitary sewer, natural gas and storm drainage systems. The roadway itself was widened to provide for safer vehicle movements. New decorative brick paver cross-walks along with ADA Compliant Handicap Ramps were installed on all 4 approaches. The existing traffic signal strain poles were replaced with new decorative mast arm poles and traffic signals.
The most challenging aspect of this project was determining ways to limit the number and length of road closures. This intersection is heavily used, and there are not many adequate nearby alternative routes for vehicles, thus figuring out how to best sequence construction was a necessity. In addition, Maxwell-Reddick and Associates Inc. was charged with project coordination to limit the impact that construction might have on businesses in the vicinity. The project was completed on time (over the summer break, while students were out) and in budget.
